Looking for a way to break up your Pentatonic Shapes? Here’s a great exercise that looks at the pentatonic shapes in a different light. I go through each shape (C-A-G-E-D) in “fourths”.

I put fourths in parenthesis because due to the nature of our pentatonic scale (1-2-3-5-6) we can’t get perfect (or even imperfect) fourths. There is a third and 5th or two in each shape, but the concept in the same. Basically play a note, skip the next note… throughout all the shapes! Dig!
