Here’s a song that has a couple of great riffs and a cool but oddly complex chord part… “Short Skirt/Long Jacket” by Cake. With just a few scale positions and a couple of barre chords we’ve got this song! I not only go through how to play it but also what they’re thinking so we can incorporate some of this stuff into our own playing.

The Main Riff, Segway Riff is based around the 1-3 1-3 Slide Scale in D. The Segway Riff – Into Chords and A Riff are built around a triad concept I go through in the video lesson.

The Chord part is great but syncopated. Here it is:
